Sponsored Artist Mike Hayataka

Biography:

Mike Hayataka is from Grand Rapids, Michigan and has been hooping for over 12 years. In that time he has fallen in love with hooping and teaching object manipulation. He has been teaching in the flow community for over 8 years. He really values the flow community for the acceptance and encouragement he's found there, as well as meeting many people he now considers to be his family.

His goal as a teacher is to empower others to believe in themselves, especially women, through the powerful act of learning things they never thought they could do before with hoop. He believes this translates to empowerment beyond just hooping skills and into one's own life. This is especially important to Mike as it relates to women. He recognizes that as a straight male teacher, who teaches primarily to women, he is often in a relative position of power. He tries his best to keep this in mind and always incorporate consent into his workshops. If there’s any way he can do better in this aspect, or if anyone is looking for his perspective on how to incorporate this in their classes, they’re encouraged to reach out to him.

His analytical teaching style informs intuitive, hard to explain concepts, through single technique-based breakdowns. With a successful international and domestic workshop portfolio he has taught at over 60 flow and hoop events over the last 8 years, and is ready to share his knowledge with you. Message him for private online hoop classes. Beyond hopping, Mike is a leather worker and has been professionally sewing for 16 years. You can find his leather work on IG @thatleatherguy_llc
